Jacques Marie Mage Kobo

Description

Permeate the surreality of the modern condition in these unique, oblong Jacques Marie Mage Kobo glasses, crafted in honor of Japanese writer, artist, and inventor Kobo Abe, who was renowned for his exceptionally odd, satirical, and often sinister explorations of individuals in the thralls of contemporary society.

JMM Kobo is an oblong lens shape with thick curvilinear volumes that are necessarily finished by hand. It is made of 10mm block acetate with custom double-laminated acetate temples, featuring precious metal hardware. Suitable for larger faces.

Kobo is part of the Jacques Marie Mage Kyosho series.

The concept of the Kyosho, or “master of art,” is what shapes this series of spectacles, an homage to the many achievements of Japan’s influential artists, those with a unique proclivity for embracing the country’s duel traditions of craftsmanship and innovation. Each eyewear style highlights an individual whose tremendous talents and efforts have meaningfully elevated global culture. Not only have these creatives prioritized mastering their craft, but they’ve radically demonstrated that creativity is a commitment, as much about understanding the past as it is about shaping the future.
