Yuichi Toyama

Yuichi Toyama

Through his professional upbringing in Sabae, Japan’s seat of traditional eyewear making, Yuichi Toyama has developed a deep sense of curiosity and creative determination that informs his work.

His frames are individual objects often inspired by the everyday, such as jump ropes and cookie cutters, and are meant to communicate and connect with people from all walks of life. Working from a philosophy of merging traditional skills with innovative design, you can see a particularly Japanese approach in his eyewear by combining opposites to emphasize simple elegance and timeless beauty. Toyama’s designs are based on 5 guiding principles: Look, Think, Draw, Make, Break.

Marrying traditional craftwork and innovative design, Toyama’s label was first founded in 2009 and renamed eponymously in 2017.
