New Céline Sunglasses SS17

The new Céline Sunglasses collection for Spring Summer 2017 has just been announced. We got a sneak peak of the new styles at the Beverly Hills Hotel and were lucky to have our friend Jasmine there to model the new styles.

The Céline SS17 sunglasses release includes 9 new styles as well as new colorways for existing styles.

Three dimensional cuts play a key role in the collection. The Céline 41449/S  (larger) and 41450/S Kate (smaller) are based on squared shapes with beveled acetate that turns the eyewear into a stunning boxes of light. These styles are both instant classics.

The rounded Céline 41448/S Ava is part of the same design family. Particularly noteworthy is the jeweled-toned Beige colorway that catches the light in a spectacular way.

In formal contrast, there is the Céline 41445/S, launching in the strong shades of black, white and the very characteristic, blushy Céline colorway Pink. Calling to mind the curves of a pair of lips, the outward facing contour on the browline is and feminine and dramatic.

Frames Within Frames

Two frames which bring a new aesthetic to the Celine line, the Céline 41446/S Zoe and Céline 41447/S Petra, reflect the idea of a “frame within a frame.” A thin, luminous outer layer is just translucent enough to reveal a slightly more defined peek-a-boo frame beneath. The play of light gives new meaning to core colors gray and petroleum blue, while each style comes in one additional colorway for the more adventurous: Fuchsia (41446/S) and Orange (41447/S).

Céline has stepped into a new arena with the release of two new frames constructed with a titanium sheet front. Although this may seem like a radical departure, the Céline 41451/S Ed and Céline 41452/S Mila are very much in the Céline sunglass tradition with respect to clean lines, distinctive shapes and house palette.

On the Edge

The runway piece for this season is extremely sharp. With a flat top, severe pantoscopic tilt and acutely angular corners, the Céline 41468/S Edge is poised to cut a unique position in the fashion world. Available exclusively in black or blue, this piece isn’t expected to ship until the first week in March, but order now and we will send it out immediately upon release. Keep an eye out for the Céline Edge on the runway and in ads.

New Colors

The Céline SS17 Sunglass release also includes new colorways for existing favorites, including Baby AudreyThin Shadow, Lea and Marta. Baby Audrey and Lea have been both updated with stunning whites, and Baby Audrey also now comes in Transparent Brown.  Both the Marta and Thin Shadow has been released in two of this seasons knockout candy colors: Teal and Transparent Fuchsia.

Maui Jim’s Newest Lens – Blue Hawaii

Maui Jim Blue Hawaii Lenses 432

Introducing Maui Jim’s Newest Lens, Blue Hawaii!

Overflowing with vibrant blues, Maui Jim was inspired to create a new lens for those that thrive on color. Developed as a fashionably fun option for for those who want a pop of color, Blue Hawaii provides a stylish new look that offers the same amazing color enhancement and clarity as all other Maui Jim lenses.

The secret behind Maui Jim’s clarity and enhancements is PolarizedPlus2, which enhances the colors your eyes naturally perceive, so you see vibrant, saturated colors with a higher level of contrast and greater depth perception.  For their Blue Hawaii, Maui Jim starts with a neutral gray color enhancing polarized lens and and then meticulously apply a blue mirror coating.

Blue Hawaii lenses are available in prescription.

Maui Jim infuses their lenses with a patented blend of three rare earth elements to enhance red, green, and blue light waves. These elements increase and balance the saturation of colors we need to see, and filter out the colors we cannot see that cause a lack of clarity. So colors pop and your world comes to life!

Masunaga x Kenzo Sunglasses

Kenzo hearts Masunaga

Kenzo Takada has been wearing Masunaga frames for years, since he was first introduced to them by his optician in Paris. He’s admired the brand for its timeless designs and unparalleled craftsmanship. When Takada gets the opportunity to design a line of sunglasses for the generations old Japanese eyewear factory, the results are amazing.

The capsule consists of 6 models, each available in 3 colorways, for a total of 18 pieces. Motives stamped into the rims reference 1920’s watch design and include Kenzo’s family crest, the campanula flower.

The collection is made from titanium, which means lightweight and comfortable to wear. Certain pieces also feature Masunaga’s signature acetates. All frames in the capsule include polarized lenses with anti-reflective coating on the inside.

Titanium and 18k gold detail

In addition to the standard collection, Takada directed the skilled craftsmen at Masunaga to create a solid gold edition by welding titanium onto solid 18K gold segments at the temples, a near impossible task, which they seamlessly execute.

A contemporary of Yves Saint Laurent, Takada was one of the architects of the pret-a-porter movement in Paris in the 1970s. He was one of the first male students at the Bunka fashion school in Tokyo and upon graduation in 1964 moved to Paris to make his mark. By successfully selling his fashion sketches he was able to stay in Paris longer than he had initially hoped. In 1970 he opened his boutique known then as Jungle Jap. His designs were known for bright colors and patterns .

In 1993 Mr Takada sold his Kenzo brand  to LVMH. Later when when he stepped away from the company for good, people wondered what one of the most important contemporary fashion designers in the world would do next. He has continued to paint and serves as the honorary president of the Asian Couture Federation. He has designed housewares, a yachta hotel, jewelry. And now this…

We are excited and honored to be one of the few retailers of this extremely limited collection in the world. Only 100 sets will be produced in the standard set, with the addition just 5 pieces of each model in the 18k gold.

Expected arrival date is late January. Available for pre-order now. Preview the collection here:

TB 707: black, gold, red, white and blue

We are trying to stay cool about these killer Thom Browne specs, but we’re having a hard time. They are just so good.

Thom Browne TB-707

Browne professes not to know too much about the history of fashion, but a quick study of his eyewear says otherwise. The new TB-707, part of the Thom Browne Summer 2014 release, is the latest in a series of glasses that reference the browline tradition. We think Browne and his team hit it out of the park with this one. It’s an incredibly tight design.

Form and Function

Let’s start with the shape. The contours of the lens have been softened and proportions reigned in from his previous clubmaster-style frames. Browne’s suits for men are known, among other things, for their extreme (short) tailoring. And while other Tom Browne Eyewear have taken more liberties with proportion, the dimensions for the 707 can be described as more commercial. It just looks good on. The bevels and curves of the browline are smartly tailored. And always, each screw and rivet is custom made and carefully designed and crafted.

Black and Gold

The 707 comes in three colors: black, grey and tortoise. Let’s talk about the black and gold combination: anything but boring. The front of the frame is matte black acetate. For Thom Browne Eyewear, whatever glitters actually is gold, and in this case the titanium core of the frame is clothed in 12 karats.  And then we come to the accent colors.

Red, White and Blue

Building on the red, white and blue silk lining that Browne uses for the interiors of jackets and purses, the TB-707 features a series of red, white and blue laminates on the interior of the frame, which tie in with Browne’s signature, similarly-colored temple tips.  It’s a detail to be enjoyed by the person wearing the glasses more than for anyone else — a personal luxury, which is what’s it’s all about, right?

Jennifer Stano in Porsche Sunglasses

We’ve loved the original Porsche sunglasses when they first came out in 1978, and we’re happy to say that back in a big way! Even better than they were before, the design is now rendered in titanium and so they’re lighter and more comfortable. The design will always be a classic.

Jennifer Stano’s Sunglasses

One look at these inspiring pictures on our friend Jennifer Stano David’s instagram say it all. Jennifer is a fashion icon, wife, mother, swimsuit designer, blogger and reality TV personality (she appeared on TLC’s “Secrets of a Trophy Wife”). Recently Jennifer snapped a few selfies in her Porsche sunnies and was kind enough to mention us as well.

The Porsche aviators have interchangeable lenses to suit your mood.

We custom-made these gradient blue lenses for Jennifer to match the azure waters of the Mediterranean. What color is your mood?
